Speaking with the business leaders, Buhari said his administration would make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice production within 18 months.
Buhari said his administration would make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice production According to him, 13 states of the federation had been identified for the production of the crop and the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, had already been briefed on how best to achieve the target. The president, who decried the way and manner the nation’s scarce resources were wasted on the importation of food items by the previous regimes, said unless the economy is set right, Nigeria will continue to be in trouble.
L-R: Chairman Oando Oil, Wale Tinubu; Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Chairman Zenith Bank Plc., Mr. Jim Ovia and the President Elumelu Foundation, Mr. Tony Elumelu during the Presidential Breaking of Fast On the devaluation of naira, Buhari insisted that he was yet to be convinced about the economic benefits of the exercise.
“What do we derive from that, how much benefit can we derive from this ruthless devaluation of the naira? “I’m not an economist neither a businessman, I fail to appreciate what is the economic explanation ,” he said.
Nigeria’s business leaders Presidential Breaking of Fast at the state house banquet hall, Abuja Speaking on behalf of the business community, Kola Jamodu, the chairman of Unilever, thanked the president for inviting them for the breaking of fast dinner. The TECNOCamon C9 is the most astounding smartphone ever from TECNO Mobile, expressly designed to serve as the perfect camera phone with its dual flash 13 MP camera in the rear and another 13 MP in the front.
It makes sense that TECNO would try its hardest to show that, despite the device being a predecessor to the Camon C8, there have been loads of changes to ensure that it stands out immensely, you can be sure that this device looks nothing like the previous model. And so, it only makes sense that a device with such amazing camera ability would require a tour around the country. They call it the C9ja tour, and Abuja was their second state. You can read more on their Ibadan escapades here. They got to Abuja late in the evening after spending a good number of their travel time fixing their vehicle on the way. Settling down for a few minutes, they set out to get a taste of what Nightlife in Abuja entailed. A late dinner at Mama Cass, and some Suya & Mosa afterwards ensured that they were set for the day. Abuja is famous for a lot of recreational spots and parks. The C9ja crew went sight seeing, taking stops intermittently to capture every beautiful sight with the Camon C9. Their first stop, of course, was the Welcome to Abuja spot. They had gotten to Abuja really late the day before, and couldn’t do this. From then on, they moved to the Abuja National Mosque, also known as the Nigerian National Mosque, situated on Independence Avenue, across from the National Christian Centre, where they also did a stop. After a quick stop at the monumental Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) House, in the Business Central District of Abuja, they headed for the Gurara Waterfalls. But as you well know, rising spectacularly immediately north of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, along the main road from Abuja to Kaduna, is the Zuma Rock. A large monolith composed of gabbro and granodiorite. The Gbagyi people used it for a defensive retreat against invading neighboring tribes during intertribal warring years back. Sometimes referred to as the “Gateway to Abuja”, the Zuma rock is depicted on the 100-naira note. This team of tourists visited Gurara falls afterwards, while they took the climb down the fall, they captured the beautiful falls and moments with their Camon C9. An hour and a half later, they were set to explore their next stop. The Millennium Park was their last stop for the day. It had a hassle-free ambience with lots of a lot of smiling faces, happy children running around, and groups of people engaging in one fun activity or the other. It was Fathers’ day; and you couldn’t help but notice bonding moments between parents and their kids. It was altogether a serene environment, and they even got to play African Basketball. The African Basketball is a game where a number of goodies are placed on the ground in rows and columns, the player is given a couple of loops for a fee, and allowed to throw them at the goodies till they get exhausted. Whatever the loop falls into, the player gets to take home. This has been in existence since 1984, and it doesn’t just sound like fun, it was fun. Abuja sure sounds like a great experience for them, and with the presence of their celebrity tourist, VJ Adams to experience it all with them, we can be sure it was even more fun. The next morning they set out for Enugu – the coal city. You can follow their entire journey to #C9ja on social media here, here and here. And you can also get a virtual tour here.
– Education minister says the announcement was important to re-echo it in the minds of stakeholders – Argues that only JAMB scores and certificates should be requirements for admission
The federal government has reiterated its desire to place a permanent ban on the Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME). This much was disclosed by Malam Adamu Adamu, Nigeria’s minister of education, who confirmed that the initial ban on the exercise, stated categorically that it (the ban) takes immediate effect. According to a press statement obtained by Leadership, Adamu said he had to emphasise the ban so as to ensure that no stakeholder is left in doubt on government’s position. Ben Ben Goong, the deputy director, press and public relations in the ministry of Education, issued the released which read: “For the avoidance of doubt, any educational institution after secondary education is regarded as a tertiary institution. Therefore all tertiary institutions, polytechnics, Colleges of Education, universities or by whatever name it is called after secondary education must be subjected to admission through the JAMB. “Clearing in this case (screening) entails only the verification of certificates of the candidates, JAMB scores, and any other physical examination to ensure that such candidates are not cultists. After this, the candidates are qualified for matriculation. “Such screening should be at no cost to the parents or students and should be done upon resumption in order to avoid unnecessary travels in search of admission.” The minister added that a situation where final year students in the nation’s secondary schools are subjected to too many examinations in one year could be best described as traumatic, exploitative and absolutely unnecessary. Recently, a report by Daily Sun detailed how some universities have tactfully ignored the directive of the federal government as regards the recent cancellation of post-UTME fees. According to the report, the universities have devised other means to test applicants and charge administrative fees in the process. The universities were said to have invited applicants for admission for the 2016/2017 academic session, ask them to pay certain amount and also sit for a screening test before being considered for admission.

– Charles Okah who has been in detention for the 2010 independence day bombing reportedly escape
– He allegedly escaped from from Kuje prison by scaling the prison walls
– The Nigerian Prison Service has however denied the escape and insists he is still in detention
According to Sahara Reporters, Charles Okah who is a member of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) has escaped from Kuje prison. Okah who is the brother of Henry Okah who was the leader of the group escaped on Friday, June 25 by scaling the high fence of the prison walls.
Okah has been on trial for the 2010 Independence Day bombing that killed 27 people during the country’s 50th independence anniversary. The escape happened around 7:30 pm and he reportedly jumped the prison walls with another inmate.
Security operatives have begun a massive manhunt to apprehend him. Henry who is the senior Okah has since been convicted by a court in South Africa. MEND which used to be a notorious militancy group eventually accepted the federal government’s amnesty and stopped the destruction of pipelines and kidnap of oil workers. However, Daily Trust has reported that the news of Okah’s escape from Kuje prison is not true. Francis Enobore who is the public relations officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service claimed he was in touch with security operatives on ground and that Okah was still in detention.
The prison wall
He said: “It is not true, CharlseOkah is still in custody. I have been in touch with our men in the prison facility and there is nothing like that [Okah escaping].” He however admitted that there was an incident at the prison on Friday. “Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Henry Okah was not involved.” Okah infamously tried to commit suicide in court in 2015 after he addressed Justice Gabriel Kolawole and claimed that former president, Goodluck Jonathan was responsible for his travails. He had said: “I have been incarcerated for about five years now, and I have a family to cater for. “My children would grow up without feeling the warmth of their father. I am tired of this endless trial.” Earlier this year, Okah embarked on a hunger strike to protest against harassment by officials of the Kuje prison.
The prison wall
In a letter through Timi Okponipere, his counsel, Okah had addressed the minister of interior, AbdulramanDambazau informing him of the danger his death will pose to the whole country. “At the time of writing this letter, our client is as emaciated as a bean pole on account of the hunger strike he has embarked upon, to draw global attention to his plight.” “Literally and figuratively speaking, our client is virtually a dead man. If our client dies in prison custody, the entire world, particularly the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta where our client hails from, shall rise in unison against President MuhammaduBuhari’s government, even as we concede the fact that, our client’s ordeal began during the tenure of former president Goodluck Jonathan, a fellow Ijaw,” More details soon.

– The president said the economy was greatly affected by the activities of the militants
President Muhammadu Buhari has send a strong plea to members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to stop the havoc on oil and gas pipeline in the country.

Vanguard reports that President Buhari on Friday, June 24 pleaded with the militants in God’s name to stop their attack.
Buhari begs militants in the Niger Delta
The activity of the militants has reduced the production of oil in the country thereby affecting it economically. Also, the destruction of gas pipeline has also affected the provision of electricity in Nigeria. The president noted that many militant groups were operating in the region and that some of them were armed with sophisticated weapons similar to what BokoHaram was using in the north east. He also noted that the economy was badly affected by the activities of the militants. Meanwhile, former militant leaders in Bayelsa state condemned the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers and other groups in the Niger Delta region, saying it was in no way aimed at advancing the interest of the people. The ex-militant leaders led by General Africa Ukpariasa, General Pastor Reuben and the current local government caretaker committee chairman, Joshua Maciver issued a statement after a meeting with presidential adviser on Niger Delta, Paul Boroh; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, IbeKachikwu; the Bayelsa state governor, Henry Seriake Dickson and other stakeholders in the state.

He said: “I was absolutely clear [in the referendum] about my belief that Britain is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union . And I made clear the referendum was about this and this alone, not the future of any single politician, including myself.
“But the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction.
“I will do everthing I can as prime minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months. But I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination.
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly. But I do believe it’s in the national interest to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required.
The country has voted to exit the EU by 52% to 48%. Leave won the majority of votes in England and Wales, while every council in Scotland saw Remain majorities. It is a historic decision that shocked the world and sure to reshape the country’s place in the world..
More than 17.4 million people cast their votes in the referendum on June 23 to sever ties with the European Union, and about 16.1 million to remain in the bloc. Mr. Cameron in May has been caught on camera defining Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt countries” on the eve of a major corruption conference in London. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in a response said instead of an apology that he would want the repatriation of assets stashed in the UK by corrupt Nigerians

God will judge those prosecuting me for grievances during my military days – Dasuki
Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Colonel Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd) on Thursday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he is being punished by some persons at the highest level of power in the country for perceived grievances they hold against him while in active military service many years ago. Dasuki who did not name any particular person said that the punishment being meted on him was unfortunate having being borne out of mere vendetta. In an emotion laden submissions while reacting to the government request for his secret trial, Dasuki who spoke through his counsel Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, told the court that he had rested his case in God for the ultimate judgment.
“It is crystal clear that the defendant (Dasuki) is being punished by the powers that be for the perceived offences committed long before…we leave them to the Almighty God for his ultimate judgment”, he said. Dasuki had been arraigned before three different high courts for various allegations and was granted bail, but was rearrested in December last year by the Federal Government and had since been held incommunicado. At the resumed trial today, the Federal Government had approached the court, seeking secret trial of Dasuki who is facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms, money laundering and breach of trust. In the fresh motion argued by the prosecuting counsel, Chief Dipo Okpeseyi (SAN), government prayed the court to allow witnesses give evidence behind the screen to be provided by the court.
He held that the request hinged on the fact that Dasuki as a former top security chief has large loyalists across the country who may jeopardize the trial if done in the open. He further submitted that Dasuki has in the recent past held the highest security office in the country and has loyalists in the security circle whose loyalty has been transferred to personality and whose actions might be inimical to prosecution witnesses some of whom are still in the service. Okpeseyin cited the case of the government witness who was involved in a serious accident, resulting in multiple fractures and injuries but however stated that in as much as he would not allude that Dasuki has a hand in the accident, it heightened the need to have the witnesses protected by the court. He further submitted that in the highest military office where Dasuki served last, loyalty was the first, second and the last rule and because of the peculiar nature of loyalty some persons have for him within the military and beyond, those to give evidence in the trial were at one time or the other, staff of the defendant. He stressed that since the witnesses were those of the court whose primary duty was to assist the court arrive at a just conclusion, the issue of security must be viewed with a serious concern. He, therefore, urged Justice Adeniyi Ademola to screen the witnesses from the public in the interest of justice, and to protect them, their families and career. But Counsel to Dasuki, Joseph Daudu (SAN), vehemently opposed the request for secret trial of Dasuki. His argument was that it will breach the principle of fair trial, adding that contrary to the position of the government, Dasuki cannot be a threat to the witnesses as he has been in the custody of the federal government since December last year. Daudu argued that open trial is the minimum requirement in a criminal trial and as such, any attempt to opt for a secret trial in the instant case, which was not a capital offense will run contrary to Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution on fail trial. The Defence counsel therefore asked the court to discountenance the claim made by the prosecution on the issue of loyalty in the military circle, stressing that such claim was a mere speculation and not backed up by facts. On the accident of the witness, Daudu told the court that the accident would not have been caused by Dasuki, who has been in the government custody for almost a year. He said that the alleged accident has no bearing with the request for secret trial. He therefore urged the court to dismiss the application for secret trial as such will trample on the rights of the defendant to fair trial. Justice Ademola after taking argument from both parties fixed ruling and continuation of trial for September 13, 14 and 15.
I – The Nigerian Senate has taken a long break from its activities
– This was announced by Senate President, BukolaSaraki
– The Senate will resume back to plenary on Tuesday, July 12
The Nigerian Senate has taken a two-weeks break from its activities. The decision was announced today, June 23, by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki is spending more time in courts than in the red chamber. His supporters say he is being persecuted. According to Saraki, the upper chamber will adjourn plenary till Tuesday, July 12. It is not clear why the Senate embarked on this long break. The decision might not be unconnected with the anticipated court appearance of Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu who have been accused of criminal conspiracy and forgery of the Senate standing rules. The duo have been officially served with the charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja and they are expected to appear before the court on Monday, June 27.
Saraki and Ekweremadu has maintained their innocence since the allegation came to public domain The federal government had through the office of the Attorney General filed the charges against Saraki and Ekweremadu as well as former clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi. The government;s action prompted senators under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to withdrawn their support for President Muhammadu Buhari. The senators said they will no longer cooperate with the APC government until the government put a stop to its belligerent acts. Meanwhile, Saraki has reiterated for the umpteenth time that he knows nothing about how the rules were adopted in the inauguration of the 8th Senate which produced him as Nigeria’s number three citizen. According to the Senate president, the case of forgery was just another phase in the orchestrated persecution he has faced since he emerged as Senate President
